How does it work for Tutors?
Tutors Students
There are 3 different ways you can offer tutoring service at TutorGator.com:
  • Respond to a standard course request
  • Start a special course
  • Respond to a special course request

  1. Respond to a standard course request
  • What is a standard course?

When you first register as a tutor, you will edit your profile where you will specify your personal information, education background, schedule and the courses you are willing to offer. You will be choosing these courses from a list of available courses that are called the standard courses which include but are not limited to all the courses currently being offered in UF or Santa Fe Community college.

  • What happens after I register?

Students will be able to search and find the best tutor for their needs based on the information tutors provided. If a student chooses you as a tutor, he/she will request tutoring for which you will be notified via e-mail.

  • What do I do when I get a tutoring request?
If a student chooses you as a tutor, he/she will request tutoring for which you will be notified via e-mail. The student will pay the greater amount of $5 or 10% of the total price for the requested number of tutoring hours based on your hourly rate, as the service fee for matching you with the student. After that, you will be able to see the contact information of the student under “My students” tab. Then, you will be in direct contact with the student to schedule your first meeting. The payment you will receive from the student will be your hourly rate - 10% of your hourly rate from then on.

Example:

The student agreed to take 20 hours of Calculus with $20 per hour. This means that, student will pay $40 to TutorGator, and $18 per hour to you.

After the first lecture, you will be in direct contact with the student. You will still be able to use TutorGator resources such as messaging and evaluation for students.
  • What happens if I do not accept the tutoring request?

You can choose not to tutor the student after you receive his/her request. However, this will reduce your tutor rating. In order to avoid this, try to update your profile accordingly.

2. Start a special course

  • What is a special course?

Apart from the standard courses you added to your tutoring profile, there are several cases where you might want to offer a special course. The most common situations are listed as follows:

  • You would like to offer a course on a topic that is not already on the available courses list.
  • You would like to reach to a group of students instead of one-on-one tutoring.
  • You would like to offer special lectures such as problem solving, homework or quiz assistance.
  • You would like to have a review session before a final exam where you can review topics covered in class or solve previous year’s exam questions.
  • How do I add a special course?

Adding a special course is very easy. When you log in to your tutor account, you will see an option to add special courses on the left menu. When you click on it, you will be able to specify the title and the description of the course you would like to offer, as well as the number of lectures, time, place, number of available seats and the total course fee you will be charging per student. Moreover, you can also upload supply material such as previous exam questions, chapter reviews, etc. for your students to see and have an idea about what you are going to do before the lecture. Please note that the files you upload will be available to the students even before they register for your class and they should be in text, word, or PDF format.

3. Respond to a special course request

  • What is a special course request?

It’s not always the tutors that would like to offer special courses. Sometimes, students themselves might request a certain type of course. For example, if student John would like to take salsa lectures before his first date with the prom queen, and there are no tutors available, he might create a special course request which can be seen and responded by the tutors.

  • How do I find and respond to special course requests?

You can search special course requests in your own field of study and respond to the ones that you like to teach. Responding to a special course request is just like responding to a regular tutoring request. However, please note that, once the student sees your profile he might decline your offer. If your tutoring offer is accepted, you will be notified via e-mail and both your contact information will be sent to each other.
